Thank You, Mama

Our mothers’ lessons are an immense treasure, which so many of us never articulate. This podcast does just that: award-winning author and journalist Ana Tajder talks to women of different backgrounds, nationalities, ages, and professions who share the most valuable lessons they learned from their mothers. This weekly trip around the world should allow the colorful experiences and wisdom of global mothers to inspire, motivate, and maybe teach the listeners a lesson or two.

Internal medicine physician, work-life integration researcher and author of “Sacred Rest: Recover Your Life, Renew Your Energy, Restore Your Sanity”, Saundra Dalton-Smith talks about burning out when she became a working mother, which inspired her to write her book about the seven kinds of rest and become an advocate for restoring wellbeing in workplace.

Saundra lost her birth-mother during childbirth and was raised by her American great-grandmother Fanny, who lived to be 103. Fanny teaches us about having a strong sense of self; about listening to your body and eating well; and about enjoying nature and the still moments of meditation, nature, prayer and “listening to the wind.” We also learn from Saundra’s birth-mother Sarah, who teaches us that we never know when our time will come so every moment is precious and we should leave nothing unsaid, and most importantly: we must always express our love to our loved ones. We also learn that our hearts are big enough to have multiple mothers who come in different forms – on top of being raised by her great-grandmother, Saundra also had a step-mother who was an important mother figure to her.
